TV Upfronts

It’s upfront season, with both Seven and Foxtel displaying their wares for 2015. Seven fired first on the set of the X factor, announcing HBB TV, multi-channel viewing at the Australian Open, Olympic coverage in 2016 and data solution partnerships with Acxiom.

Foxtel’s launch utilised the cast of Wentworth to highlight the breadth and depth of their offering in a very funny skit. Key announcements were data fusing with Qantium (purchase data) with MCN’s 110,000 strong multi-view database, dynamic trading, new tech for V8 coverage and IQ3.

Our take

Both shows were flashy affairs, the exciting news from both being data partnerships allowing greater targeting and consumer understanding. Streaming services, HBB TV and improved set tops boxes allow greater viewer control and choice, but also allow tailored client messages to be served, for deeper one to one conversations.

Topics ignored largely by Seven, HD broadcasting (especially live sport) and fast tracking international programming, which is disappointing and very near sighted.
