The Alpha Retailer arrives

Retail giant Amazon is primed to launch into the Australian market by the end of 2018, bringing with it an extensive range of electronics, books, clothes, groceries and more. Nielsen have published a report finding that brand awareness is continuing to build in the Australian market with almost half (47%) of consumers aware of the company’s looming arrival. The report focuses on Amazon’s approach to three key drivers of online purchasing – price, range and accessibility.

Our take

Amazon’s arrival on Australian shores will be a huge shake-up to established local retailers. However introduction of a new player could well be the nudge the local market needs. Amazon’s reputation for harnessing the power of customer data and technology to deliver an optimal and personalised customer experience could pave the way for established traditional retailers to move into a new age of e-commerce.
