Snapchat triples video views

Snapchat, the fast emerging mobile messaging app, is reported at 6 billion video daily views, tripling since last May. With Facebook’s views sitting at 8 billion, Snapchat is catching up faster than expected. In 2013, Snapchat turned down a $3Bn acquisition offer from Facebook, and is now valued at $19B. According to Snapchat, more than 60% of 13-34 year-old smartphone owners in the US use it.

Our take

Snapchat’s highly involved users love it because of the real time message exchange speed, which is rapidly building loyalists. Snapchat is trying to up its cool quotient with features like Stories, Discover, Snapcash.
Once available in Australia, Snapchat will become a lucrative platform for advertisers for its latent base of users. But with its real time scale, the cautious way-in may be via the “Discover” feature as a means of sampling its real-time massive footprint and ensuring you are resourced to handle the response.
