Roy Morgan presents the automotive revolution

Roy Morgan presented its latest State of the Nation Report with a spotlight on The Australian Automotive Industry. The report recognised the immense technological disruption facing the industry in the lead up to 2020, covering the impact of car sharing, driverless cars, & urban mobility. It also provided a snapshot of current consumer attitudes to these trends, with openness (and in the case of car sharing, uptake) far more prevalent among Millennials than Baby Boomers.

Our take

Industry transformation is already taking place, the Daimler/Mercedes owned Car 2 Go has 3 million users in 8 countries and removes consumer pain points around parking, fuel, taxes & insurance before you book a spontaneous vehicle from your smart phone. Australians are buying more new cars than ever before but the tipping point will arrive and the current franchise dealership model will need to evolve as we move from ‘fixed ownership’ to ‘fluidity and access’.
