Recycling benefits for retailers and consumers (…and the planet!)

Coles and Woolworths supermarkets are supporting an innovative closed-loop recycling initiative, making it easy for Australian consumers to contribute to creating a sustainable future. Consumers take their empty ‘scrunchable’ plastic items into 580+ Coles and Woolworths supermarkets and through the REDcycle program this plastic packaging is repurposed into useful new products like sturdy outdoor furniture and signage. This Australian-first sees large corporates partnering with a small local recycling organisation, creating a wider footprint for the program.

Our take

Barriers are removed for consumers and they can now choose a better end of life outcome for materials that were previously going to landfill. Retailers create another reason to visit in-store, hence why we see more & more examples of this; Nescafe Pod Recycling, Telstra New Phone Feeling etc. The brand better reflects the values of the individual consumer and a closed loop of positive relationship between retailer & consumer is nurtured.
