Apple ramps up AI

Apple is currently working on a microchip called the Apple Neural Engine, which will be dedicated to carrying out artificial intelligence (AI) processing on its iPhones, rather than relying on computer servers to process data sent to them in the case of digital assistants like Siri and Google Assistant.

Our take

With Apple being such a leader in mobile tech, the addition of this kind of new tech, will fuel the uptake of AI across all mobile devices, which in turn will bring all kinds of new capabilities and Apps across devices to make use of this new technology. This may lead to a higher reliance on these mobile devices on a daily basis as mobile apps become enabled to manage everything from health changes to passions and interests automatically.
