A merging of the minds!

Foxtel have taken a 15% stake in free to air broadcaster Network Ten, with the Ten then taking a 25% stake in MCN, Foxtel’s media sales house. The ACCC will investigate the proposal, for any implication on completion, but the deal should pass in the coming months. As part of the deal, MCN will take responsibility for the sales of Ten inventory from September 2015.

Our take

This is a positive step for Ten/MCN and the wider TV market. The market requires networks to deliver investment into programming, which in turn delivers healthier audiences, and also allows advertisers and agencies a viable alternative to Seven and Nine. This isn’t a silver bullet for the industry and the fragmentation of their audiences remain, however a Ten/Foxtel combination is a far stronger entity and more than capable of moving forward in a screen neutral, content driven marketplace.
