Airbnb expands the sharing economy

Fast Company have nominated the Brands That Matter Now in 2017 based on performance against recognition, quality, impact, and driving category momentum. Airbnb has earned its spot on the list. Latest stats show Airbnb’s dominance of the homestay and travel market, with listings exceeding 4 million. Most interesting, is their new trajectory into the experience economy. Collaborative community enthusiasts, who may not be in a position to rent out property, can monetize local knowledge by offering immersive experiences.

Our take

As an iconic disrupter, this part of the brand’s DNA must continue to remain authentic. Having achieved their original purpose, shaking up the accommodation market, sights are set on a new target – travel experiences. In the world of big data they are building value. Growing customer relevance, and a greater slice of the sharing economy, gives Airbnb a bigger data footprint, making them a powerful marketer and indispensable partner.
